Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and procrastination concerning academic performance, focusing on the mediating role of motivation among students. Motivation was operationalized as a potent mediator in the study as well. With the provision of research implications, other antecedent variables such as self-esteem, teacher style, family support, and peer group are introduced in the present study.

Design of the study: A random sampling technique was used to select the sample from the general population. The General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Procrastination Scale, the Academic Performance Scale, and the Student Opinion Scale were the measuring tools used for the data collection. The study participants were college students, and the total number of participants was N=203. All the data was analyzed using Structure equation modeling by Smart PLS 4 software and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences.

Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted over three months in the different colleges of Karachi.

Results and Conclusion: This study found that procrastination has an influential impact on the academic performance of students. Motivation does play a mediating role in the relationship between self-efficacy, procrastination, and student's academic performance. The results also have important implications, underscoring that self-efficacy and procrastination play important roles in the student's academic performance. Given the present study's findings, the hypothesis was confirmed and further established that self-efficacy had a strong and positive correlation with student's academic performance.
